A Journey Through the Climbing Disciplines with Bronwyn Hodgins

From Big Walls to Endurance Test Pieces

Join Bronwyn, a Wild Country climbing athlete, as she takes us through her journey across the climbing disciplines. A trad climber at heart, she has explored remote locations and projected big walls in Yosemite, Mexico, and Chile. Her journey then takes her to Spain and into the world of hard sport projecting.

At first, it seems like the two worlds are very different, but the mental focus, determination, and drive that work so well transfer beautifully into long, hard tufa-filled routes.

Bronwyn takes a step back from the logistics of expeditions and trains for a specific route to test her limits while keeping future big walls in the back of her mind. This focused training and goal require a winter of dedication and challenge her in new ways. La Rubia is a 55m, 5.14c cave route with 3D features and multiple cruxes—a very different style from the multi-pitch face and crack climbs she had previously focused on. The mental challenge and self-imposed cumulative pressure of sending the route were familiar feelings, and the skills learned in one climbing discipline are a huge benefit when trying another.

What's Next for Bronwyn?

Bronwyn is switching back to traditional climbing, connecting with the community before heading to Yosemite to reap the benefits found within hard sport climbing on new walls.

What is Bronwyn's Favorite Wild Country Sport Climbing Gear?

The Mosquito Harness  is a super lightweight sport climbing harness that has evolved into the Mosquito Pro. The new "Pro" version keeps the comfort of the original, maintains a focus on being lightweight, but adds extra features for trad and wall climbing.
