MOUNT PLEASANT (VANCOUVER) STORE

1. Store Supervisor

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Staff Supervisor to join our Operations Team at our new Mount Pleasant Location in Vancouver, British Columbia. Our new store will open May 2025; position start date will be as early as March.

Climb On Equipment is an omni-channel rock climbing specialty retailer. We aspire to become the best and most trusted source for rock climbing and alpinist equipment in North America.

Our Staff Supervisor works closely with the Store Manager to help lead the team and supervise daily store tasks. This person should have amazing people skills for leading our team of up to 5 sales associates (varies seasonally) and a strong understanding of how to deliver great service to both staff and customers. You bring a strong existing knowledge of rock climbing equipment and a keen personal interest in keeping up-to-date on all things related to climbing. Experience in other backcountry pursuits is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • The Staff Supervisor works in an assistant management role, reporting to the Store Manager and oversees the staff and store tasks during their scheduled shifts, leading staff training on operational procedures.
  • Take ownership of the daily tasks such as shipping, receiving, merchandising and cleaning by completing tasks, training staff on jobs and assigning work throughout the day.
  • Oversee the break schedule and maintain staff coverage of the retail sales floor for service and security.
  • Strive for top level customer service standards for you and your team (In-person, phone or email).
  • Monitor team performance and behavior to provide meaningful feedback to the Store Manager and staff directly.
  • Foster an environment of positivity, appreciation, and lead with encouragement.
  • Collaborate with the Store Manager to maintain the store presentation and keep the store shoppable, organized, and tidy.
  • Support the Store Manager by participating in new staff onboarding and ongoing staff training and reviews.
  • 90% of your time will be spent working with people, either customers or staff.
  • Additional responsibilities to be added over time and can be flexible to suit any special skills or experience you bring to our team.

Qualification

  • 2+ years experience supervising a team.
  • Outdoor Retail Experience an asset.
  • Strong leadership skills; ability to positively uplift staff while also maintaining discipline.
  • Proficient computer literacy skills: writing emails, editing docs, filing in sheets, using apps, plus more.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Desire to contribute to creating better store operating procedures.
  • Thrives in a fast paced environment but also able to self motivate during slow periods.

Bonus Skills

  • Formal education in business or leadership training.
  • Familiarity with the Google Platform (Docs, Forms, Excel Sheets, Gmail).
  • Personal experience in Traditional, Big Wall, Aid Climbing, Alpinismor Glacier travel.
  • Mountain Rescue or Rope Access Experience.
  • Knowledge of other outdoor sports such as backcountry ski, mountain running, hiking, camping.

Other Details

  • Available at least 4 days per week including most weekends.
  • 30-40 hours a week.
  • Starting hourly rate of $24-$27 depending on experience with room for growth.

2. Permanent Retail Sales Associates

Overview

Climb On Equipment is seeking Retail Sales Associates to join our Operations Team at our NEW Mount Pleasant store in Vancouver, British Columbia. The store is set to open on May 2025 with staff training commencing Mid-April.

Do you love working with people, enjoy a fast paced and social environment? Do you have strong customer service skills and a strong existing knowledge base in traditional rock climbing methods and equipment?

Working in Customer Service at Climb On means working with a team of dedicated rock climbers and adventure enthusiasts while meeting like minded customers all day long and helping them plan the perfect gear and apparel choices for their next adventure!

Responsibilities

  • Provide 5.12+ customer service and product knowledge, always matching the customer with the right equipment for their needs.
  • Share product knowledge and help people of all levels find the right gear and apparel for their next adventure.
  • Keep a tidy work space and participate in daily tasks like cleaning, restocking and organizing apparel, footwear, and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrate a well rounded pre-existing knowledge base in the various categories of rock climbing including Traditional, Sport, Boulder, Ice, Alpine.
  • Minimum 1 year previous service industry experience.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Excited to learn new skills and knowledge.
  • Enjoy working in a customer facing role.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.

Compensation and Expectations

  • $20 to $22 depending on experience with room for growth.
