Detailed Description
The A&D starts as a classic cam-style ascender, but a built-in plate on the body lets it convert to a descender on the same rope. To switch from ascending to descending, you feed the rope under the cam and into the plate, clip in a carabiner, briefly unweight the device to release the cam, and descend exactly as you would with a standard rappel plate. That eliminates the usual headache of cam-style ascenders being purpose-built to go up and awkward to release for descent. A large bottom ring connects cleanly to the harness, and the spacious ergonomic handle — along with a ring on the cam itself — keeps it manageable even with gloves on.
